The African National Congress (ANC) has finally passed its budget for Mogale City with the support of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP).
The ANC won back the mayoral seat after the removal of Democratic Alliance (DA) Mayor Michael Holenstein by a secret ballot in a vote of no confidence. The EFF supported the budget tabled by the ANC mayor Patric Lipudi.
Whilst the DA walked out of the process during the budget discussion, it stands its ground on saying it will continue to serve the residents of Mogale City regardless of political affiliation and will hold the current ANC executive accountable.
The DA remains adamant that much of the budget includes elements of what they proposed under their administration although they welcome the move made by the ANC. The EFF and IFP’S support in council to the ANC shows that it is committed to undermining the project of democracy and change in the country.
The DA added that the people of Mogale City come first and that residents can be assured that any wrongdoing by the ANC will be met with the strongest action from the DA leadership in Mogale City, “all our Councilors have always been ready to work and serve, despite the instability caused by the ANC”.
With the ANC now in power again in Mogale City, the DA maintains that this political push by the ANC in Mogale City is not new to them and has shown that the ANC will do anything to destabilize councils where it has lost the confidence of the electorate.
