Bodies of two unidentified miners trapped underground have been recovered following a rock fall at Tau Lekwa Gold Mine in Orkney near Klerksdorp in the North West.
According to SABC News reports the Rescue team has been on the ground trying to rescue two other miners who remain trapped underground since Saturday night.
It is understood that the rock fall may have been triggered by a tremor. While some family members are coming through to identify their loved ones.
In the meantime, media is barred from entering the mine premises.
Reports say some of the victims’ families are yet to be located and informed of the incident. The victims are believed to be from Kanana, Kuruman.
The Eastern Cape and Lesotho operations at the mine have been stopped.
The Department of Minerals and Energy officials have been dispatched to the scene.
