Cops seeks assistance in tracking suspects linked to KZN shooting

The South African Police Service (SAPS) special task team assigned to investigate KwaZulu-Natal political shooting has called on community members to assists in tracking down the two suspects following the last shooting spree of African National Congress (ANC) Umzimkulu Municipality councillors.

Last week three Umzimkulu Municipality ward councillors were shot, it is understood that the three were attacked by unknown suspects at the Ibisi area and the suspects were seen fleeing scene in a red motor vehicle.  The victims were taken to hospital for serious medical attention.

Police have urged community members to join the search for the two suspects.

Meanwhile, the task team made a breakthrough in the murder of Mbhekiseni Khumalo (57), a former ANC councillor of the uPhongolo municipality.

Khumalo died in December last year after he was shot several times at his homestead at Kwalubisi village by an unknown gunman.

On Monday members of the task, the team arrested a 51 year old suspect.  Benginkosi Jacob Twala who appeared briefly at the Phongola magistrate court on Tuesday and is expected to appear again on 26 July 2017.
