Diepsloot Residents says they have been living in poor condition for decades, saying governments have failed to play its part.
In the early hours of Monday morning residents in the area took their anger to the streets protesting over service delivery.
Community members are demanding better houses, water, and electricity.
Motorists were prevented from going to work and several roads were barricaded with burning tyres, stones and debris.
A resident says the government has failed the people of Diepsloot with its leadership structure.
“We’re striking because we want electricity. President Jacob Zuma hasn’t helped with our problems because he’s giving the Guptas the money.”
