Knysna residents have started the process of counting the costs after a deadly fire breakout in the area.
Over the weekend a woman has been reported dead which bring the total of deceased people in the fire to seven.
Enala Manda passed away in Tygerberg Hospital. Her three-year-old daughter also died last week.
This comes after a 63-year-old John Blaauw who volunteer in battle with fire was reported dead last week.
Manda’s relative, Alfonso Niyirenda, says that fourteen happy years in Knysna have now been marred by the loss of his family member.
“My niece and her mother were trapped in the fire. My niece died in the same spot and her mother died in hospital.”
On Wednesday, Bradley Richards, a 24-year-old Plettenberg Bay volunteer firefighter, died after flames caused him to suffer 70% burn wounds to his body.
The Knysna Municipality’s Fran Kirsten says the fires have been contained for now.
Word arsonist is difficult for most. To simplify, I’ll say, hope this isn’t a war between the fire lighters & the fire fighters#KnysnaFire
