South African Football Association (SAFA) President Dr Danny Jordaan and Mamelodi Sundowns boss Patrice Motsepe in Barcelona, Spain for El Clásico that will take place at the Camp Nou on Sunday evening.

SAFA announced that Dr Jordaan and Motsepe will be guests of honour during Sunday’s El Classico encounter between champions Barcelona who have just won their seventh LaLiga title in 10 years and Real Madrid the UEFA Champions League finalists for the third time in a row.

Barcelona are league champions and are already looking towards next season whilst Real Madrid are focused on a Champions League final against Liverpool in Kiev, Ukraine on May 26.

The two bosses are expected to meet with Spanish Football Association top officials and La Liga bosses in Barcelona prior to the much anticipated El Clásico. The meeting will pave more cooperations between Spain and South Africa in football.

Mamelodi Sundowns and Barcelona are expected to officially announce the friendly after news leaked that the Brazillians will face Spanish giants on May 16.

The mouth-watering friendly against Barca will form part of the Nelson Mandela Centenary celebration and will be staged at the 90,000-capacity Soccer City stadium (FNB Stadium) in Soweto.

This was strengthened with Dr Jordaan signing a Cooperation Agreement with La Liga.

It will be the second visit of Barcelona to South Africa, having beaten Sundowns about 11 years ago at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria in 2007 where a star studded Barcelona came from a goal down to Sundowns 2-1 in front of a full-house.

The move will pave a way for more South African teams to formalize relations with to Spanish clubs such as Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Savilla and more..

The players are also likely to benefit from exposure and possible transfer.
