Two police officers from Diepkloof, Soweto, have been arrested after an attempted cable theft at Zakkariya Park over the weekend.
This comes in the wake of reports that the train collision that took place in Elandsfontein in Ekurhuleni last week was caused by cable theft.
The arrest came just days after a horrific collision between two Metrorail trains has claimed the life of one person and 50 people sustained minor injuries in Elandsfontein due to cable theft.
According to the political commentators and analyst the alleged corrupt actions of the arrested policemen stands to add to the negative relationship between the public and the police service.
The new police Minister Fikile Mbalula announced last week that his first point of impact is to clean-up criminal elements within the police first.
