Popular Vuma 103 fm DJ, Phumlani Nkwanyana, joins other male celebs who have recently shown support for and undergone voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) as a way to realise the ideal of an AIDS-free South Africa.
Nkwanyana had the procedure done this month at a clinic in Durban primarily because of its many health benefits and says the procedure was quick, painless and well worth it!
“I encourage all men to get circumcised to reduce the risk of getting HIV by 60%,” says Nkwanyana.
VMMC also reduces the risk of other sexually transmitted infections, such as herpes and syphilis and it also offers additional protection against life-threatening health conditions that face men, such as penile and prostate cancer.
“Before the procedure, I was nervous, but I manned up and did it. I encourage all men to do the right thing!”.
Nkwanyana, is a MMC Man Up ambassador and is Deputy President of Africa Break the Silence, a non-profit organisation committed to educating young people about HIV and AIDS.
