The Auditor-General (A-G) has made a series of damning findings against the Office of Mpumalanga Premier, David Mabuza, including that tenders are being awarded to close families of his employees.
The Office of the Premier currently has over R211 million of irregular expenditure in their books, with the claim that it is all under investigation. Yet, during the period 1 April 2015 to 31 March 2017 (2 years), only 1 employee was “disciplined for corruption”, either through a written warning or suspension without pay.
According to the A-G, the majority of the irregular expenditure resulted from the use of deviations that were not justifiable and flouting of supply chain management requirements.
During the 2016/17 financial year, Premier Mabuza’s office spent R45.5 million on consultants and the reason why remains unclear as the OTP does not actually deliver services.
