Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) President Sdumo Dlamini has called on the delegation at Cosatu Consultative Conference to restore solidarity within the African National Congress (ANC).
Dlamini was addressing delegates at the federation’s central committee held in centurion on Monday.
The South African Communist Party (SACP) general secretary Blade Nzimande has told the same delegates that the ANC might need to be replaced if it fails to self-correct.
Nzimande also addressed members of the ruling party along with its federation saying the ANC must rescue itself from the ongoing crisis.
He added that if the ANC fail to rescue itself, the SACP will be forced to shift to an alternative.
“What should be its substitute because as the Communist Party we can’t, strictly speaking? But there might be in future a need to mobilise a whole range of forces to play this role if the ANC is unable to play it.”
Dlamini says the ruling party needs the federations to survive. “The ANC can’t survive on her own, without us, the workers, in this country.”
The ANC is expected to meet with its alliance partners next week to resolve their alterations.
