The Speaker of the National Assembly, Baleka Mbete, has about two weeks to decide on whether the Motion of No Confidence in the President will be conducted through the secret ballot vote or not following the Constitutional Court ruling on Secret Ballot Application.
Constitutional Court’s Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng ruled: the Speaker of the National Assembly has powers to decide on a secret ballot in a no-confidence motion against the sitting President which is President Jacob Zuma.
Before deciding on the matter madam Speaker set Friday, 14 July 2017 as the deadline for the political parties in parliament to submit their views regarding their preferred means of voting on the upcoming Motion of confidence which is scheduled to be debated in parliament on the 08 August 2017.
Following the deadline this Friday, Presure is now on the Speaker to make her decision regarding the appropriate voting procedure before the scheduled debate on 8 August 2017.
Some members of the ruling party, African National Congress have already announced that they will tow the party line and vote with the opposition on the motion.
