The University of Western Cape (UWC) says it will be in talks with its staff members following protest over subcontracting at the institution.
On Wednesday, number of workers along with students gathered at the university’s Bellville campus demanding an end of subcontracting at the institution.
Activist Shaheed Mohamed says the mediation process is arranged.
“Let us have mediation as everybody is ready. We are just waiting on management. The workers gave them three days. We want the documents where they state that insourcing is not viable.”
UWC’s executive director of financing Manie Regal says management is open to mediation.
He added that the negotiation process is between employees and the employer saying the institution will not be attached to this matter.
“I don’t know if the employer is up to it. It’s up to the employer to accept those terms of condition for mediation, not UWC.”
