Zille defies DA

Western Cape Premier Helen Zille has defied the Democratic (DA)’s decision to suspend her following racism tweets over the weekend.

Zile has challenged the DA’s federation executive council detailing the reasons why she refused the suspension saying her decision was recommended by her lawyer.

This weekend it was announced that the party’s federal executive resolved to suspend Zille following controversial tweets in which she said that there are positives to colonialism.

Zille, however, alerted the party’s leadership to their own constitution, which requires her to make representation as to why she shouldn’t be suspended.

She was then served with a letter to make her representations within 72 hours. Zille says she is now awaiting a response from her lawyers first.
