ANC was wrong to distribute its T-shirts in a state event – Madonsela

The Public Protector Thuli Madonsela said the ruling party African National Congress(ANC) was very very wrong to use the state event such as the Freedom day to distribute its T-Shirts.

ANC hijacked the Freedom Day Celebrations in Giyani to their own benefit distributing ANC Zuma branded t-shirt and preaching ANC agenda in a state funded event.

President Jacob Zuma addressed the Freedom Day national celebrations in Giyani, Limpopo Province. The 2016 celebrations are to be held under the theme: “Together Building Better Communities – Local Government is Everybody’s business”. Freedom Day is celebrated annually to celebrate freedom and democracy and also to commemorate the first post-apartheid elections held on 27 April 1994.

The national event that was meant to celebrate South Africa’s 22nd Freedom Day in Giyani, Limpopo, was instead used by the ANC to campaign for the upcoming local government elections and buy President Zuma more time in the office.

Nathi Mthethwa who chairing the event took the advantage of the event by criticizing those who are anti Zuma or wanted Jacob Zuma to step down as the President of South Africa.

Over half of the people attended the event were seen wearing the ANC T-shirts or having an ANC regalia as if it was an ANC event.

Thuli Madosela in a TV interview on Justice factor told the host Justice Malala that it was wrong for the ruling party to distribute or issue out their party t-shirts in a state based event such as the National Freedom Day
