2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1’s 10-speed automatic transmission shifts faster than Porsche’s Dual Clutch gearbox
The new Hydra-Matic is said to be 36 percent faster than a PDK from first to second, while the two-three and three-four upshifts are 27- and 26-percent faster, respectively.
“The shifts happen so quickly and without delay that it almost feels like an extension of your reflexes,” said ZL1 lead development engineer Aaron Link. “It’s a much more involving experience for the driver that really helps improve confidence and performance on the track.”
GM expects the ZL1 to be the first volume production car to be outfitted with a 10-speed transmission, advancing from the sixth-generation Camaro’s eight-speed unit. As an added bonus, and also helpful in appeasing regulators, the extra gears help maximize efficiency.
