The African National Congress (ANC) Secretary General Ace Magashule told the media in a post ANC National Executive Committee (NEC) media briefing in Lithuli House today that President Jacob Zuma is set to call the press conference to make a big announcement.
The President is expected to make an announcement about the his future in the Presidency following the ANC NEC’s resolution to recall him.
Magashule said the ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa will take-over as the president of the country after President Zuma’s resignation, no decision on who will deputise him and the ANC NEC will decide on who becomes the Deputy President.
Magashule told the media that the NEC did not give the President an ultimatum to step-down but asked him to resign and no timeline set on the matter.
The ANC SG also agreed that the President had request more time in the Presidency but the request was declined by the ANC NEC.
Magashule did not provide details on whether the President has agreed to resign but said Zuma is a disciplined ANC cadre.
